Lurker,

Even if he's right about CBS his was wrong about O.J.

Richards for the plaintiff and Groden for the defense had the same handicap. They were trying to give expert testimony on photos based on decades of experience with photo alteration methods that didn’t apply to the Flammer and Scull photos. Richards was more up to date that Groden but when he left the FBI in 1993, the technology of photo alteration was undergoing a radical change.

Nowadays it is easy for anyone with a computer, a background in t photography and the right software to put Bruno Magli Lorenzos on anybody’s feet in a way that bypasses the methods Groden and Richards used to detect forgeries. Richards clobbered Groden but all he proved in the end was that Groden didn’t know how the photos were altered. The circuitous by which they came into the plaintiffs’ possession is the key. They had to make a stop along the way from Flammer and Scull to a lab in England, one of the few places in the world that could make digital alterations without leaving tell tale evidence to show that they were altered digitally, not mechanically. They did.

Whatever the outcome of Richards’ new charges the fact remains that all of the conditions he indicated had to be met for the shoe photos to be faked without him being able to detect the alterations, were met. In the final analysis, his expert testimony demonstrated that experts with enough time and the right equipment could fool other experts. –Jasper
